  1. Show Up!

Nothing grows a creative community like simply showing up. For creatives, performing and showing up to support others as they perform are two of the quickest ways to build a strong-knit community between the creatives in your area. Attending activities like open mics, public events, workshops, and gallery viewings can all help build relationships between creatives.

2. Collaborate & Provide Welcoming Spaces

Showing up to creative events in your area allows for connections to be made between creatives and sponsoring programs. With these connections, artists are opened to the opportunity for collaboration. These group projects are much more likely to bring people out to experience these create events for all that they can be. Events filled with music, painting, dancing, singing, and other variations of performing and visual arts give the community plenty of opportunity to come out and show their support.

3. Remain Open-Minded

Promote artistic diversity in your community. Open doors for people of all backgrounds and artistic skills to perform and share their art with the skillsets of others. One of the most important factors of art is individual expression. Remembering to keep an open mind to the expression that others find in their craft is a key to growing your creative community.

4. Accept & Encourage Feedback

Art in a community is nothing without support. While your originality is a big part of what makes you an artist, accepting and taking into account feedback from other members of the community can greatly increase growth. Feedback will allow you to better understand what it is that your community would like to see and what they are more likely to support.

5. Be Consistent!

If any effort has the goal growth and prosperity, consistency is key. When it comes to performing and art, every show won't be sold out. Sometimes the crowd will be small an intimate... at times a little too small and intimate, but this is not a reason to give up and stop trying. Remaining consistent with the efforts behind growing a creative community will bring creatives to you. With an open space to connect, perform, and grow their craft, creatives are bound to come. Regularly hosting mixers, open mics, art fairs, and other opportunities to interact with the community will promote a stronger bond and the growth of the creatives near you.

While there are many ways to grow your creative community, these are just a few key points that could promote a stronger-knit bond between the creatives in your area. It is important to remember that working together is fundamental to growth.

With that being said, keep on creating!
