MGM Busking FAQ

1. What is busking? Busking is, essentially, street performing. It includes, but is not limited to, the performance of arts like music, dance, theater, vocals, poetry, painting, miming, and storytelling.
   

2. Is busking legal? It depends on the location. In the city of Montgomery, busking is legal if the intended busker possesses a license issued by the City of Montgomery.

3. Do I need a permit to busk? Absolutely! The permit/license to busk in the City of Montgomery can be acquired by filling out the Busking License Application (more details to follow).

4. Where can I busk? Busking is common in areas that experience high levels of foot traffic and tourism. These areas include, but are not limited to, parks, train stations, outdoor markets, and restaurants.

5. What type of performance is suitable for busking? Buskers are open to the displaying of performing and visual arts. Some of these arts may include singing, dancing, playing instruments, miming, poetry, storytelling, and painting.

6. What equipment do I need for busking? The equipment that you need for busking depends solely on the performance you plan to deliver. Musicians will need their instruments, and some will need speakers and amps. Depending on preferences, those singing, speaking, or storytelling may need mics and speakers to make their voices more profound. Artists will need to supply their paint and other materials.

7. How do I stay safe while busking? Remain aware of your surroundings at all times. Avoid unnecessary conflict and offensive behaviors. Stay in your designated busking area. Keep track of belongings. Keep an emergency contact on speed dial. If you can, busk in pairs. Ensure you have your busking ID.

8. How much money can I expect to make? Money earned is mostly based on foot traffic and crowd engagement. Depending on those factors can increase or decrease earning potential, but the potential is nearly unlimited.
